This holiday, I drove a round in Peninsula Malaysia, covering the land of Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Selangor, Wilayah Persekutuan, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka. Google Maps calculated it was 1424 km of 18 hours drive.

Actually I drove to Kota Bharu, to fetch my daughter. I started at 6 am. When I reached Mersing, it started raining heavily. The rain was getting heavier and heavier towards Terengganu and Kelantan. It was like pouring pails of water onto my windcreen. Visibility was only the car in front.

When I reached Pasir Putih, Kelantan, many cars stopped by the roadside. Some drivers told me the road was closed for light vehicles due to the flood. They advised me to take a detour to Machang. When I reached there, there was a standstill in traffic for almost 2 hours. Then we were told that the road was closed too. The alternative road to Tanah Merah and Pasir Mas was closed too. I couldn’t turn back to Terengganu because the road was flooded too. I was stranded in Kelantan!

It was already 9 pm. I called the police station. The police said although the Tanah Merah – Pasir Mas road was flooded but still passable. At last, I reached Kota Bharu at 10.30 pm. That was a 16 hours and 30 minutes’ journey.

The next day I called the police again. The police advised me to take Gua Musang – Kuala Lumpur way back because the road to Terengganu and Kuantan was closed.

I stayed one night at Raub, Pahang. The next day I continued to Kuala Lumpur. Went to Midvalley City.

Finally reached home at 11.30 pm. Home sweet home.
