… you have reached the boulevard!

Tamron 17-50mm

If you look at my wishlist, there is a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8. Why do I need a 28-75mm? Well, at present I am using my 90mm f/2.8 if I were to shoot stage performances or speeches. Sometimes I need to shoot the audience and also group photos of the performers, the teachers and the students. I always tell them “my camera can only fit 2 people”. The view angle of the 90mm is very narrow but they don’t undertsand it.

A 28-75mm is a “continuous” range below 90mm. It can be used to shoot the stage (but I need to stand nearer) and wide enough to shoot group photos. I don’t really need a really wide angle as to shoot landscape.

But I read a very interesting article about 17-50mm vs 28-75mm lenses. It says, we can always get a view as of 75mm if we take two steps forward when using the 50mm lens. But we cannot get a 17mm view if we were using a 28mm, when there is no space for us to step backwards. So it is always more advisable to get the 17-50mm lens.

I went to the camera to try out the 17-50mm. It is a f/2.8 lens so I would expect something like this under fluorescent light.

But I got something like this…

The image is very dark. It is not sharp. This is almost like the kit lens. First impression is very bad. I put back the lens. Other alternatives could be better.
